What is a trading card grading?
Trading cards are objects of passion and sometimes great value. To guarantee their authenticity and assess their condition, there is a process called grading. But what exactly does it mean?
Definition of grading
Grading is a professional evaluation of the condition of a trading card. It is based on strict criteria such as the quality of corners, edges, surface, and image centering. Once the card is analyzed, a score is assigned on a scale from 1 to 10. The higher the score, the more the card is considered to be in excellent condition. After grading, the card is sealed in a protective case designed to preserve it from damage and handling. Each graded card also receives a unique code, allowing verification of its authenticity directly on our website.
Why grade a card?
Protect your card: A graded card is encapsulated in a secure case, protecting it from wear, moisture, and handling.
Increase its value: A certified and well-graded card can see its market value increase.
Facilitate sale or trade: A graded card gives confidence to buyers and collectors.
Guarantee its authenticity : Thanks to the unique verification code, you can prove that your card has indeed been graded by our service.
How does the grading process work ?

2
Verification and Authenticity : We confirm the authenticity of the card and detect any possible counterfeits.
3
Card Analysis : An expert carefully examines the corners, edges, surface, and centering using precision tools.
4
Scoring : The card receives a score for each criterion and our algorithm calculates the final grade.
5
Encapsulation : Once graded, the card is sealed in a secure case with a label indicating its grade and certification number.
6
Shipping : The graded card is sent with secure and verifiable online tracking.
Understanding the grading criteria
The final grade is calculated based on the following 4 criteria, called subgrades :
• Corners : Are they lifted or dented ?
• Edges : Are they intact or do they show marks ?
• Surface : Are there scratches or visible marks ?
• Centering : Is the image well aligned on the card ?
A perfectly preserved card can achieve the ultimate score of 10 star, while a damaged card will receive a lower grade. For more details, discover our Rating System.
